You don’t even really realize it is there until you tackle on a problem. Any problem actually. When you are a designer the goal is to be creative. Being creative has become synonymous with the term - individuality. How do you prove your creativity? By doing something that no one else has done.

Archetype: A very typical example of a person or thing

Is design just the medium for the designer’s whim?

I am currently trying to design a chair out of foam. Now chairs are an archetype. When I say chair, certain images come to mind. Expected images, a seat, a back, some legs. As a designer you try to defy these notions of chair. In order to seat someone you don’t necessarily need to produce a chair. I’ve sat on window ledges, steps, the floor, But the term implies a form in order to solve the function. The possibility that my chair will revolutionize the world is very unlikely. Outside of the designer posse, general people could not identify a chair that has changed the world. So why do we design chairs?

Towers are archetypes, courtyards are archetypes. The issue is that they are not the only solution to house the function. So in attempt to defy form, do we create something for the sake of creating something? It’s like when arguing with a pubescent brat who’s only response is “you don’t know me”. You know what I’m talking about, they don’t listen, they don’t have a purpose other for than the sake of defiance. Does my young enthusiasm and stubbornness transfer into my design practices? If I am willing to accept status quo as the ultimate, then I might as well retire my designing hat.

The technology sector can be an example of design and marketing taken to extreme possibly unnecessary levels. There’s so much of it and it just keeps on coming out faster and faster, greater and greater. Blue tooth, wi-fi, 3G, 4G,,, smart phones, iphones, androids. I’m re-iterating an accepted and to an extent boring statement, we all think it. Technology is fast, and it’s being produced faster. It’s all in the attempt to produce something that people will purchase, something necessary for our lives. Novelty as status symbols, nothing new, displaying our riches as justification of our existence. How do you as a designer interpret this?

I think ultimately what I need is a design counsellor, to answer these questions. Someone to guide me in my quest for design. Cause ultimately there’s no correct answer, you either embrace and continually strive for something new or attempt to defy these natural tendencies. The people want it, I want to make it for them, I could be an imbecile for thinking new is better.

Oh art!

The definition of art is debatable. In reality they have absolutely no clue what you're saying and think it's another garbage degree that universities are spitting out that will NOT lead to a proper job. But it's everything, it's product design, it's the chair you sit on, the i-pod in your pocket, the kettle you pour with, it's even the box you bought your new tv in. Even packaging is considered part of industrial design. There is a lot of value in packaging, and ridiculous amounts of money are spent on it. It's the beginning of an experience that gets people into the product. Thus begins the birth of a new series on Design-UD, Not Just a Box. Whenever I see a cool packaging that isn't just a typical box, where a company/designer has made an effort into the packaging. I'll post pics whenever I find a new packaging. Below is a Cinnabon box. I know, Cinnabon, not glamorous but ridiculously yummy. The shape is like a typical hamburger box, but the corners are unique. The way they poke out, adds a little bit of color and a way to hold it together. Not the sturdiest, but props to Cinnabon for trying.

AB-EX

The Ab-Ex - aka Abstract Expressionism

There’s a moment in my life, I replay it over and over again in my head because I am constantly experiencing deja vu coming to the same realization again and again. Learning about design is like entering a whole new world. It changes your perspective on everything, You end up constantly thinking about design and end up analyzing the world ad nauseam. I acknowledge that everyone’s experience is different from the rest. To each his own, right? A girl and what appeared to be her “date” walked in while I was there. She was dressed way too early for the night, like 8 hours too early. She came in way after me and probably left way before me. This is me being judgmental, but my best guess is she didn’t have the same experience as me.

OCAD taught me about modern art movements. After all that through out the exhibition I could not help but think Po Mo, Po Mo, Po Mo. Post Modernism. This period is characterized by experimentation and emotion. The experimentation was intense every artist was unique with respect to each other. But the epic moment was seeing Ad Reinhardt’s Abstract Painting. It’s a large painting. I call it Black. It really is just a black painted canvas. But you don’t really appreciate it until you look closer, from different perspectives, really how the light reflects off of it. There’s a video describing how he actually mixed black paint, a little bit of color and tons of paint thinner, shook it up, let it sit, poured out the thinner, and then painted with the sludge.

http://www.ago.net/abex-multimedia

What looks like one black square there are actually 12 squares, each with a slight color difference between each. It was a product of technique. The only way the piece could have existed, was through his method of separating the paint. When art is so subtle, and slight, to the point that even a camera can not capture it. I’m going to put this out there. the piece is slightly genius.

While you may not be able to enjoy the exhibition in Toronto, I can only assume they are on their way back to MOMA in New York, and if not, the AGO has pretty good documentation on it, you may find an experience unique to you.

http://www.ago.net/abstract-expressionist-new-york

sigh

It's August. I know I should be shot for how much time has gone by since I last posted. This one will be short, but not due to lack of effort. I'm big on combining images together, I would by no means call myself an illustrator, that would involve having some sort of talent. But i've been inspired to create, by Garance Dore's clean lines, and Coco Rocha's fierce posing, and Carlos Buendia's interesting water color layering have lead me to this creation. One day I will find my own style, but for now it's about experimentation, such is life. Let me know what you think, whether it be the style, good or bad, should i continue, or quit before I really offend someone?

summer goals

So i didn't do too bad especially in comparison to last semester, posting definitely declined in April... my bad... but on to SUMMER! As the days grow longer and ideally the weather becomes warmer, I have a sense of renewal and excitement for the future. I am planning a lot for this blog. Reality, it doesn't really exist, (how very Matrix right?) What I actually mean is. Our environments have been designed and constructed by someone else. The laptop I use to type this on; the chairs I sit on; the doors that I open, the TTC system. None of it was created by me, but I can change all that, as a designer. I could design chairs, laptops, doors, a new TTC system (well the last one might be a bit out of my league). This is very empowering. Life does not have to be this way. I keep on picturing the Gwen Stefani HP commercial, where she walks around and little drawings float out of her, this is me with less fancy graphic design. But it's a very hopeful concept. To be a designer means to be idealistic, and critical, and realize everything has potential. Potential to be altered to be made better, to be reinvented, to be invented. There are no limits to design, it can be anything, and it can be done by YOU! Is anyone else excited?

Marc Jacobs is so YUMMY :D

Fashematics is a witty site, that pokes fun at fashion using pop culture and everyday references to reframe how we see the runway. TED is amazing, if you don't know TED be prepared to be amazed. What is amazing about TED is that it encompasses all topics and different aspects of our lives. It can inspire, it can teach, it can broaden our horizons, TED can push us to want to learn more. So what is this TED if you don't know of it (not him) is a conference that brings the creme de la creme of industries to talk and broadcasts them on the web. But we're not talking about the brilliant we are talking the people who are inspiring and are changing the world with the work that they do, the things they study and pursue. They all have dreams, and dream of changing the world with what they are good at. When the world is down on you and you need a little insight or perspective it's a good place to see the bigger picture. The possibilities for cross fertilization of ideas are amazing. What is a bit sad, the architecture talks lack and they make me fall asleep, come on you archies you can do a better job of representing us.

That being said I present 2 designers I have found on TED. Thomas Thwaites, and Matthieu Lehanneur

Thomas Thwaites: His talk was about his experience trying to make a toaster from scratch. Not just scratch scratch, but directly from the earth. He had to travel around the world gathering resources, and research into the real old school techniques. It really shows how separate we are from our elements, and how much of the world is involved in making something simple like a toaster. It was an interesting perspective.

He has other interesting insights into the world. This one was cute, especially for those in a long distance relationship. It's a bracelet that you can wear, when you miss the person, you can squeeze it and it will send a signal to them squeezing their wrist, and they can squeeze back. Skype and Google Chats, MSN Facebook they bring those who are far close, but this brings back the physical intimate connection the internet doesn't really give.

Matthew Lehanneur: Another industrial designer who is making big waves in the world. He is something I definitely aspire to. His more notable project is Andrea, a little breathing plant purifier, beautiful in its simplicity, and elegant in its execution.

One of his other projects I enjoy, are these architectural moldings. I like how it takes something that was very decorative and gives it another function of being a bookshelf and what not. Granted moldings were originally created to hide the ugly detail of walls to ceilings, so you kind of lose the original focus :p but they're still nice.

business cards

Follow my blog with bloglovin
I know this post might seem a little anticlimatic to you. but I'm extremely excited for this one. I've been collecting business cards for a while now. It's a good way to remember people, or their work, events like trade shows, stores, fairs, galleries, you'll find them, and each are unique to each other. The more creative the field the more unique the card. I've hired chris wiggs to design me a business card for Design-uD but that will be something for the future. Enjoy there will be more to come. :)

Brand Me

The ideas are: Authenticity, Branding, Image, Lifestyle.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 254px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_FEMdiUOOLrs/TS-3goKdThI/AAAAAAAAAKg/ZVC3lWEei4U/s320/iron-man-cufflinks_1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5561865835990830610" />
I was shown iron man cufflinks, and told to keep an open mind, and when you constantly try to be fashionable it was hard. The idea is what the iron man cufflinks represent. Iron man is supposed to stand for Strength/masculine/american ideals. A man who wears these cufflinks is supposedly embodying these ideals. To me this is a bit of a weak connection or example to use. Honestly who takes a man with iron man cufflinks seriously? It's like saying Barrack Obama should put on the Captain America costume to be more powerful politician. It's a bit of a joke.

Instead Che Guevara might be a better example.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 315px; height: 320px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_FEMdiUOOLrs/TS-3nPC-kVI/AAAAAAAAAKo/U4GCo0cN518/s320/Che-Guevara%2BT.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5561865949507653970" />
Che Guevara t-shirts have become classics on the street. His face has been embraced by pop culture. and become a huge icon and mass produced in the capitalist world. But that being said technically these are all non che-guevarian ideals (quite opposite actually) He was a major figure in the Cuban Revolution. A revolution that was anti-capitalist, anti-american (over simplification i know) This t-shirt is a bit ironic don't you think?
But look at the picture from a different angle. These people who buy these t-shirts, wear the communist hats, they themselves do stand for those very same principles. Well maybe not fully the same, but they are anti-norm, anti three-piece business suit, anti "the man"

This links into the idea of authenticity, Garance Dore goes on to write about how she was tempted to buy a cheaper, and non authentic version of haute-couture life style, how she has done it in the past, and regretted it. Because she felt self aware guilt and was compromising her ideals. Ultimately what we choose to buy is an extension of what we stand for-- our ideals. Because we just can not possibly buy EVERYTHING, therefore our purchases are subconscious representations of conscious ideals/ Or we consciously choose based on subconscious ideals.
http://www.geeky-gadgets.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/iron-man-comic-book-cufflinks_1.jpg

http://blog.jempp.com.au/uploaded_images/Che-Guevara-symbol-t-shirt-729476.jpg

Death to Desk Crit

So everyone makes new years resolutions, Sea of Shoes has decided to spread the love to all her shoes. My resolutions include the typical, eating healthier, designing better, and to definitely blog more. The timeline side bar of posts has become physical guilty evidence of the lack of posting. I envy Style Bubble in her multitiude of topics, photos, posts, adventures, the goal is to envy less. I'm putting Desk Crit to rest for a promise of commitment and dedication.DUD Design Until Death. It's my edge on design and how I see it. Welcome to the new blog. So in light of this new promise today I look at silhouettes. As lame as it is to be inspired by school we had to come up with "organic" silhouettes. Fashion will forever inspire me. When an image captivates do you wonder why? The dynamic shapes of their body, the relation of positive and negative spaces.
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 305px; height: 400px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_FEMdiUOOLrs/TSZCuNycVJI/AAAAAAAAAJ4/MCha-cuWbCY/s400/Wunderkind_5.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5559204151778104466" />

Connections

Connection: The action of linking one thing to another.

“ “ Devil Wears Prada quote

'This... stuff'? Oh. Okay. I see. You think this has nothing to do with you. You go to your closet and you select... I don't know... that lumpy blue sweater, for instance because you're trying to tell the world that you take yourself too seriously to care about what you put on your back. But what you don't know is that that sweater is not just blue, it's not turquoise. It's not lapis. It's actually cerulean. And you're also blithely unaware of the fact that in 2002, Oscar de la Renta did a collection of cerulean gowns. And then I think it was Yves Saint Laurent... wasn't it who showed cerulean military jackets? I think we need a jacket here. And then cerulean quickly showed up in the collections of eight different designers. And then it, uh, filtered down through the department stores and then trickled on down into some tragic Casual Corner where you, no doubt, fished it out of some clearance bin. However, that blue represents millions of dollars and countless jobs and it's sort of comical how you think that you've made a choice that exempts you from the fashion industry when, in fact, you're wearing the sweater that was selected for you by the people in this room from a pile of stuff.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 168px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_FEMdiUOOLrs/TPJMJ112SaI/AAAAAAAAAIk/EeKLkOfEUy0/s400/Devil%2BWears%2BPrada_3.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5544577823201970594" />
This quote was huge for me, we don't realize how much of our current lives are affected by design, and that these designs all have an origin and come from somewhere. (Miranda's condescending nature was pretty good as well) I’m fascinated with connections, to see who influenced who, to see where inspiration comes from, and to where it can lead. I feel like this is what this blog is, to express the connections that I see in my world. Between fashion, art, sculpture, architecture, photography. Design is something that floats in between everything, as the possibility to grow and foster into something else.

Design is not autonomous, it’s just that simple. For me it’s like a chain reaction of layering inspiration upon inspiration. The end result is a freak child of everything come together. It's true people outside of the design profession don't realize that being creative is combining yourself with everything else you've experienced and thought about.

What's in a Name?

That which we call a rose
By any other name would smell as sweet."

So if you ever try to google Desk Crit you get this... http://www.deskcrit.com/ I mean this blog doesn't even register as a blip in the grand scheme of things. I didn't make Desk Crit to be recognized in any sort of way, but more as a release of the million things that I witness and want to express myself with. But if this blog is to grow in any sort of way and have a long term goal it needs its own identity BEYOND. It's a frustration, Desk Crit has been something that I have invested 6 months in, I mean not that long, but a child that I do not wish to see die especially for something like a Name. But it means everything, it really does. I mean I am still me, and I would write in all my bad grammar glorious ways, spewing forth design thoughts and feelings regardless of the site. Is it time to retire Desk Crit for something new? For a new name? The other side of the coin is it would be a chance to start fresh to invest more time in, to create a new image, As we all know, I post at most once a week, more like once a month and recently even that has fallen off the trail, this could be my chance to rise like a phoenix into something new. What do you think my silent audience? There is this very technical side that you don't understand from sitting in the audience, but combined together it gives you a new take on developing fabric. I'm currently attending OCAD and constantly the teachers want you to be inventive to come up with new and exciting ideas to experiment, and that's what Proenza Schoeler had done. Which means it attracts events, protests, free music shows, free samples, crazies, and even more people. Every weekend is something different, and something exciting and a new experience. Today i happened to stumble upon the Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition. Every year Toronto hosts this event, at Nathan Philips Square. There are many different types of art, the main categories are:

Ceramics
Digital Media
Drawing
Fibre
Glass
Jewelry
Metal
Mixed Media
Painting
Photography
Printmaking
Sculpture
Watercolour

Now I did a quick round. There are no pictures from the actual event, BUT I did grab their business cards of all the good ones, Slowly I will filter these out through separate posts so that it is not one big jumble of everything.

Now you’ll notice I put in very few painters, because honestly a lot of it was very Canadian Folk. objects, and people (not really my thang). I was in the search of something more. And glass as more and more time goes on, you become less impressed by people doing glass, almost as if they are all channeling and exploring the same thing. You know what I’m talking about, the vases with the colours and the bulbous shapes, sometimes it’ll do a cool swooping thing but even that begins to wear on you. Jewelry was a bit dismal as well, especially after being to the clothing show, where the jewelry is phenomenal AND at a good price, and good quality materials. This was more, some cute pieces and many overpriced items. This year I was mainly drawn to, a lot of photographers, even ceramics surprised me a little, and THE FABRICS. Very interesting a technique called after burn, where a structure is created and weaved into the fabric, and then the area around it is burned creating very intense shapes. Very cool.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 218px; height: 320px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_FEMdiUOOLrs/TFDyWnF_f6I/AAAAAAAAAG0/qL-Og-rZ7XA/s320/LizzAston_3.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5499161615284535202" />

I remember last year being extremely infatuated and wanting to see it all, but this year I’m a little more jaded and a little more impatient, but still worth checking out, maybe not this year, but maybe definitely next!

quickie

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 213px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_FEMdiUOOLrs/TCwJsh0eFJI/AAAAAAAAAGk/7pARUlnsqJ8/s320/d-squared+shoes.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5488772706455131282" />
HOT HOT HOT AWESOME COOL
(dsquared shoes, pictures via Sea of Shoes)

2010 Toronto Clothing Show

OK so I know this is 2 months late, but it took a while for the appreciation of the event to sink in. Well not really, I’ve just been busy.

Every season Toronto puts on the Toronto Clothing Show, where young and upcoming designers, and vendors, come and sell their goods. The variety is huge, the price range fits even me who has no budget. Restraint was definitely very difficult.

The show is split into Vintage, Jewelry, Boutique, and an area for Art and Catwalk. And Samples.

So I thought I took lots of pictures, but I guess not, lucky for you. But people I think you should look out for.

People’s Republic Clothing
So this Asian girl sold me a sweater that was a quarter of a sweater? Very cool. And how can you not love an asian in dreads.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 145px; height: 320px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_FEMdiUOOLrs/TCfolA_GkWI/AAAAAAAAAGU/W1HpD9VFWQg/s320/Photo+138.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5487610393591714146" />

Love Poetry Corsets
Every girl secretly wants a corset. Very chic and nostalgic. So before anymore time passes by I apologize and on to the good stuff.
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 238px; height: 320px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_FEMdiUOOLrs/TAXweP_hKYI/AAAAAAAAAEM/iigwDFFAoAk/s400/sico_scheme_ColSw.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5478048924245764482" />
image via Sico Paints

This one will be short, a teaser if you will. In an attempt to defy these natural tendencies I use certain methods, To Do Lists are always good place to start. These are To Do blogs, or ideas that I am attempting.

1) Discovering Toronto - a series on those places that only the insider of Toronto knows and is interested in. Any suggestions?
2) Restaurant Designs - After recently designing a restaurant I can't help it, but go into a restaurant and critique them on their image, combined with food, and overall quality
3) OCAD end of the year show - I recently attended the end of the year show, want to know what I think? It's not always pretty
4) City within a Park - Or maybe it's the other way around,,, In a concrete jungle, those green things we call trees are very precious and offer a lot to a city
5) Illustrations - Garance Dore and Birdy Me Kelly Smith, create outstanding fashion images, now what can I do especially when I am inspired
6) He Said/She Said - Now I know what you are thinking, boyfriend girlfriend blogs, how more lame could you get, but when it comes to design it's SUBJECTIVE you can't deny it. After going to the same event what are the differing opinions, there may be a battle in store.
7) Packaging - We look at boxes, bags, and candles?!
8) Spoonful - A new restaurant that I designed will be opening soon in Calgary, What were my inspirations intentions? More importantly what do you think.

I mean that's a big list, but I'm excited, and let's see where this leads.
Comment, Suggest, Discourage, Boo, Hiss, I want to know what you think or want!

get FAT

F.A.T. Fashion Art Toronto

Is anyone else excited as I am? I know it’s very after the fact, but to the rest of the world which most of you are from, it’s new and it’s very exciting. So after all the fashion week madness Toronto launches Alternative Fashion Week, As a lover of art and a lover of fashion and someone who promotes pushing the boundaries nothing could be more catered to my tastes and interests. The deterring factor is a whopping 30$ to get in, this made it difficult to recruit people to come with me, but my goal this year was to go, and I was super excited! Nothing like sending a pout at your boyfriend to get some company.

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 227px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_FEMdiUOOLrs/S9nrQr2CQMI/AAAAAAAAADU/KCWlm_1lcUo/s400/FAT.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5465658294670606530" />
The poster was edgy, and every night had a theme I managed to attend the night of RAGE (grrrrrr) It was a lot less anger and a lot more goth which I guess is angry? Anyone goth or angry enough to comment or explain

I arrived wide eyed and innocent and nervous. definitely not fashion diva confidant. I’m glad I didn’t arrive with a camera in hand, because what would have been the point. It is true being there is completely different than seeing it on your little computer screen. My ability to see the details, to hear the music, breath the air, crammed into seats sitting next to bitches, and connoisseurs alike. I felt out of place, and wished I wore something more outlandish and less clubby, It was all in my mind, I had to move on.

We sat there for a half hour waiting for the performance to begin, looking around, the runway was in the middle, there were large no HUMONGOUS balloons floating around, the music was loud and throbbing, and people were anxious. The first rows had little papers taped to all of them stating Media, Toronto Blog, Fashion Television, Toronto Star, Media, Industry professionals. Next rows were a free for all. The most exciting thing was seeing Glen Baxter sitting there, smug and suave, too bad I didn’t have the courage to ask him for an autograph, sigh....

The Mission: If anyone follows the Sartorialist him and Garance managed to collect some Chloe ‘cause all the Front Rowers left behind their free books post runway show. So our mission was to recruit one of the papers that the Front Rowers obviously had no interest in, and we did! Or my boyfriend did. While I was in the bathroom the workers were going around collecting them to be thrown out, and he struck like a lightning bolt. I was so happy MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!

Standout moments, as much as it would be good to give you a detailed account of everything, I think you would be bored out of your minds I mean for all I know you’ve already stopped reading.

To be a man - christabel Nothing made my mouth drop the way this piece did. Grotesque and erotic, and slightly awkward It was this transformation of this man who came out dressed as a man and tour himself apart to become a women i mean these before and after shots only begins to manifest the mutation
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 266px; height: 400px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_FEMdiUOOLrs/S9nr8xWGUYI/AAAAAAAAADk/nLShM91TXqU/s400/FAT_christabel.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5465659052061512066" /><img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 266px; height: 400px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_FEMdiUOOLrs/S9nsGlBxbpI/AAAAAAAAADs/1nx5udD5EXI/s400/FAT_christabel2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5465659220553723538" />
Romandin - Christina Saibaiduc Her runway began with a clip of the backstage area the designer was dressing the model, in this large piece of fabric, and then with some tugging and pushing, ta daaa! this magnificent dress, and when the model came out there were two assistants waiting to re-produce the phenomenon in front of our eyes.
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 266px; height: 400px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_FEMdiUOOLrs/S9ntYOJCNKI/AAAAAAAAAEE/LcMBOgc1mIo/s400/FAT_Romandin2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5465660623159440546" /><img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 266px; height: 400px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_FEMdiUOOLrs/S9ntXuOJ8qI/AAAAAAAAAD8/cPzucSBbegE/s400/FAT_romandin.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5465660614590984866" />
Sans Souci - Her ability to fit the body was amazing, and the working of the fabric I found stunning. Her work flowed over the body, subtly hugging their curves. There were connotations of peasant mixed with an international flare. My favorite collection by far.
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 266px; height: 400px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_FEMdiUOOLrs/S9nsgAVHCxI/AAAAAAAAAD0/_-lU92Qv6T4/s400/FAT_SansSouci.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5465659657379318546" />
Ryerson - So when this collection came on, I was confused, there was this one moment of brilliance, a weird sweater jacket, yarn thing that came out, it had an interesting form an interesting use of materials, and a lot of attitude, and then the rest of the girls i thought it was ok... ok being the polite word. And then at the end it all made sense. The models walked out each next to their corresponding designer.
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 266px; height: 400px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_FEMdiUOOLrs/S9nrogcAqTI/AAAAAAAAADc/MMc-3SL1Lsk/s400/FAT_rye.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5465658703925520690" />
This may get me into trouble, but I used this photos from Stan Olkha, he definitely had the best FAT photos

Designing Enthia

I know it's been a while... But this one took a little more effort, and a little more thought. Don't worry there's more to come, and a lot brewing inside this little brain of mines.

The more groups and websites you join everything, everyone wants you to create a profile.

profile: a graphical or other representation of information relating to particular characteristics of something, recorded in quantified form.

facebook does this, twitter, stylecaster, lookbook.nu, even shopping websites ask where are you from? what is your age? Grouping you and putting you in some form of a demographic or another. When you create these things, you either accurately/inaccurately portray yourself. It’s like designing yourself over and over again, What do you want people to know about you, for the millions of people who access the internet? It’s like a derived form of the movie Mad Science. A chance to design yourself.

I have been carefully crafting my online persona so when you google me, this is what you will find. Someone who:

Likes to volunteer
likes to have fun and go out with her friends
Loves her cat
Loves her boyfriend even more
Loves design
Loves architecture

As time goes on I will refine the last two further as someone with good taste and a critical design eye. But let’s carry this theme even further. Let’s create Enthia with some Sugar, spice, and everything nice (and maybe a little chemical X ;)

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 366px; height: 400px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_FEMdiUOOLrs/S8TaBcILXNI/AAAAAAAAACk/Y1UdhfJB7ns/s400/Designing_Enthia.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5459728366545099986" />

I want to be
Edgy
Exciting
Adventurous
Confidant

To an extent the clothes you wear portray these characteristics.
When I don't brush my hair you either think I'm lazy or I'm care free (Probably the first of the two)
Everyday we design ourselves to communicate to others who we are.

faux pas x 2

So there are two things I love, adore, infatuated, obsessed, can’t get enough of. They’ll be my fashion faux pas’s.

First jumpsuits. apparently the term is derived from skydivers, they wore these one piece suits and now they're a fashion clothing term. But for me they are fabulous and fierce. I bought one a few years ago, and too ashamed to wear in public, they have become my summer staple. Just look you wake up and pull it up, and TA DAA you have a shirt and a short on. Now the only people I’ve seen wearing them in public, was some ghetto chiquita with a big boobs and even bigger booty. But once I saw this Zara version I fell back in love and hopefully will have the guts to bring it out in the future.
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 230px; height: 320px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_FEMdiUOOLrs/S7AiOsch_aI/AAAAAAAAACc/4EwSGGzFosY/s320/zara_1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5453896784590011810" />
(photo courtesy of Zara)

Next is Neon. I’m talking flashing lights, 80’s want to burn out your eyes brightness. It’s sharp, and it has a hint of nostalgia for this 90’s baby, I had a New Kids on the Block, neon yellow headband, totally awesome at the time. I enjoyed the resurgence the last few years in the street style, and I’ve even managed to pick up a tank for myself, paired with black anything, you’re ready to go out.
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_FEMdiUOOLrs/S7Ahi_kUcYI/AAAAAAAAACU/iZ7YuJt5kJg/s320/Photo+114.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5453896033808707970" />

luv love luvs

I can't stop!!!

One word: SEX-AAAAAYYYY
I don't even know what the project is about, but I do know one is by Zaha Hadid and UN Studio. The more you scroll the more you get to see. It's never ending! It's a website that basically people load up pictures of themselves. You can tag what you are wearing so other people can own the same thing. The more interesting ones for me are the photograph-ically creative.

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 320px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_FEMdiUOOLrs/S58J-R9QMUI/AAAAAAAAACE/8jk_OXthUbY/s320/lookbook_sway.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5449085039718445378" />

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 226px; height: 320px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_FEMdiUOOLrs/S58KJp3AfiI/AAAAAAAAACM/7eYzSIgua8U/s320/lookbook_sailormoon.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5449085235113262626" />

And if you love it, then you get to HYPE it, Letting the other people know they did a good job.

Enjoy!

Photos courtesy of lookbook.nu

Inspirare

Welcome! Blogs are anything and everything that YOU want them to be, how exciting! When you read this blog this is what you will expect.

Design
Fashion
Critiques
Inspiration
The end result of Inspiration
(and guaranteed bad grammar, for that I apologize I'm just not very good at it. )

I want to explore design, analyze it, break it apart, find out what makes it so fascinating and what drives me.

So for the very first one what should I talk about? It's my big coming out on the internet.
INSPIRATION. Throughout our lives there's so much information, images, excitement, all bombarding our senses and minds. How do we process it? What do we do with it?

The top 5 things that inspire me
Anna Wintour

Alexander McQueen
Tavi
Ribbons

Potential (Whatever that means)

There's so much to say, and so much to show you but that's enough for today.
